What are the paintings of buildings hanging on the library's walls?

Answer

They depict Ohio’s 88 courthouses, plus the State House, painted by Defiance College Professor Emeritus Hermann Wiebe during the 1980s.

The collection was exhibited in the State House in Columbus in 1991, and then purchased for the college by Trustee Harold McMaster and his wife Helen.

The Supreme Court of Ohio produced a video about Wiebe and the paintings and makes it available on their website on this page.

More information and digital images of the paintings can be found on this page of DC Memory.
