Can I borrow items from other libraries?

Answer

Yes, you can very easily borrow items from other libraries! We participate in OPAL and OhioLINK consortiums to increase your access to resources.

Have items from other libraries delivered to Pilgrim Library for you to pick up.

Within the OPAL or OhioLINK catalogs, click on the "Request" button next to the item you want, as long as there are "available" copies listed in the catalog. Fill in your name and barcode number from your ID card, select Pilgrim Library as the pickup location, and wait for an email that tells you the item has arrived.  They are supposed to arrive within 4-5 working days.

You can also complete an Interlibrary Loan Request form to have items delivered from other campuses, even beyond our Ohio consortiums. Click here to access this form.

Have items delivered to other libraries and pick them up there.

When you are requesting an item from OPAL or OhioLink, you have the ability to select another library as the pick-up location, such as Northwest State or OSU-Lima, if you live closer to those locations.  The catalog will default to Defiance unless you specify otherwise in the "pickup institution" box.

Use your Defiance College ID card to borrow items at other library facilities.

If you wish to visit/do research at another OhioLink library, your Defiance ID card will allow you to check out items while you are there, subject to their circulation policies.
